[HolyClub] 홀리클럽의 목표

I cannot forbear mentioning one instance more of the goodness of God to us in the present age. He has lifted up his standard in our islands, both against luxury, profaneness, and vice of every kind. He caused, near fifty years ago, as it were, a grain of mustard-seed to be sown near London; and it has now grown and put forth great branches, reaching from sea to sea. Two or three poor people met together, in order to help each other to be real Christians.

Moreover, the following year, in his sermon "Of Former Times," Wesley revealed that the goal of 'the Holy Club" was above all to help each other be "real Christians."

영어 동사 "be"를 "삶을 살도록"이라고 번역하였다. 여기에서 "be"는 존재 그 자체를 표현하는 단어라고 생각했다. 그래서, 살아있는 존재를 가장 잘 표현하는 단어가 무엇일까를 고민하다가, "삶을 산다"는 표현을 선택하였다. 

그 때 그 모임의 목적은, 진짜 그리스도인이 되라고 서로 격려하고 돕는 것이었다고 생각했다. "be"가 "존재 그 자체를 표현한다"면, 그리스도인이라는 정체성을 있는 그대로 갖추고 살아가는 그리스도인인 "진짜 그리스도인"이라는 생각이 든다.
